Emilio Capparella (also known as DJ Emilio) took out the Melbourne heat of the Midsumma National DJ Search on Sunday night.

Eleven DJs vied for the coveted spot to represent the festival’s home state against top DJs from Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart and Sydney.

Contestants were judged by DJ Little Shan, Mike Evans and Midsumma DJ competition organiser Jafar Abdus-Samad at the GH Hotel.

They each had 15 minutes to wow judges on their technique, originality and audience reaction.

The competition heads to Sydney next, with heats in Adelaide and Hobart to follow.

Once all the heats are completed, the public will get to vote online for their favourite DJ.

The overall winner will be flown to Melbourne to play at Midsumma Festival’s biggest outdoor dance party, T Dance, on January 13.

It is the second year for the competition which received an overwhelmingly positive result last year.

Capparella is a resident DJ at DnM Nightclub in South Yarra.
