Embrace the sea sway on Oz day

The Australian Sailing and Cruising Club comes into its element this coming week as the group joins hundreds of other boating enthusiasts out on the water for Australia Day.

The fun kicks off at 10.30 am on Saturday the 24th with the ASCC’s annual treasure hunt and continues right through till the end of Australia day.

In exchange for $5, people will be given a starting clue at the Balmain Sailing Club to set them off on a treasure hunt of epic proportions before returning to home base at 4pm to swap tales and celebrate the fastest hunter.

Following this, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will, at 5pm on the dot use their powers to bless the ASCC’s fine fleet which will be moored at the Elkington Park pontoon (near Dawn Fraser pool).

Sailors and land lubbers alike will then be invited to take part in an onshore barbecue and to impart well wishes to the boatsmen who will sleep in their boats overnight before taking part in Summer Series races across the harbour the following morning.

It is a feat of partying endurance, which will surely earn these sociable sailors a hard earned beer and rest on the January 26 public holiday.
