The Amazon Tennis Club will launch a monthly Saturday social get-together on Saturday 23 May at the Camperdown Tennis Courts.

The women-only afternoon will be followed by a meal at a Sydney restaurant to add to the social and friendly atmopshere the sporting organisation wants to create.

The social tennis sessions will be targeted at players of all levels. Co-president Sandra Lie said the afternoon is aimed at people who can’t get up on a Sunday morning or can’t commit to a competitive competition, but want to exercise and get involved with a relaxed gay and lesbian sporting organisation.

By running these monthly tennis sessions we hope to continually attract new members to the club and make tennis a popular sport among the community. It’s a way to get or stay fit, meet new women and make new friends, she said.

The post-game dinner outings will work through the A to Z of cuisines. Our first Saturday post-match dinner will be A for Australia, hence we’re having it at the Coopers Hotel.

Since joining Team Sydney last year Amazon Tennis Club has grown in size significantly. By the end of this year the club is hoping to incorporate singles matches into its weekly competition and increase the number of teams playing in its competition.

In addition, we’d like to see more women play tennis by joining our social sessions and would love to offer in-house coaching and training for current and new players, Lie said.

The Amazon Tennis Club runs Monday night competition at their home courts in Cintra Park at Concord. You can also catch Sunday social sessions at the Camperdown Tennis Courts from 10am.
