Buff boys, glamorous girls and cheeky bottoms all featured in the final line-up of winners at the inaugural Team Sydney sports photography competition, launched at this year’s Fair Day.

Six winners and six runners-up were commended for their artful interpretations of the gay and lesbian sports world.

With striking shots of baseballers swinging into the pitch, sun-drenched volleyballers making the spike and luscious lesbians twirling across the dance floor, it was a difficult job for judges to pick the final few to be featured at an upcoming show at Iku gallery in Paddington.

Team Sydney representative and Sydney Star Observer columnist Wally Salinger was the subject matter of the winning sports media photograph, taken by Thomas Haefele.

Cindy Connors took out both amateur photography prizes for her image of a swinging batsman. Sydney Star Observer photographer Rod Spark was highly commended in two fields -” Best Professional Sports Photograph for his image of the Convicts, and Best Sports Media Award for a picture of two beautifully adorned female ballroom dancers.

All the winning photographs will be on show at Iku gallery, 62 Oxford St, Paddington until March 8.

Highly commended in the Sports Art Award: Beach Bum by Firestix Design studio.

Winner of the Best Amateur, Capturing a sports moment award: Determination by Cindy Connors.
