Celebrating equality

After almost 20 years of serious lobbying, NSW finally has an equal age of consent for gay men.

To celebrate the landmark state government ruling, the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby are hosting a party at Arq tomorrow night (Friday 11 July).

Party organiser Anthony Hillis says the gathering of the tribes will be a party for everyone who believes in gay and lesbian equality.

We think it’s really important to mark this achievement -“ [the age of consent reform] is a rare win for the community, Hillis says.

DJ Jake Kilby and singer Shauna Jensen will entertain the crowd, who will be able to kick on afterwards at Arq’s Dangerous.

The Age of Consent party starts at 6:30pm at Arq nightclub, 16 Flinders St, Darlinghurst, and entry is free.

A separate unlicensed party for same-sex attracted youth (under 26 years) will be held on Saturday 26 July from noon to 4pm at Blacktown. Ring 0418 207 027 or email glrl@glrl. org.au for venue details.
