Centrelink goes bush

Inner-city same-sex couples have had access to seminars run by health and welfare groups on the recent Centrelink changes, and now rural areas will get their chance.

Centrelink will run its own seminars in areas like Tweed Heads, Kingscliff, Gosford, and Lismore.
Human Services minister Joe Ludwig said feedback was important and had already led to several adjustments in the implementation of the equality reforms.

We know from talking to the community that clear, easily accessible information is a vital part of the implementation, he said.

The seminars provide an opportunity to meet face-to-face with Centrelink staff to discuss the changes, in a friendly and informal environment. I encourage anyone who thinks they may be affected by these changes to attend an information session in their local community.

Same-sex couples on Centrelink benefits have until 30 June to declare their relationship.

info: More information about the seminars can be found at centrelink.gov.au or 136 280.
