Childless by choice?

UTS Masters in Journalism student Rachael McKinney is looking for a same-sex couple who would be willing to be interviewed for an assignment on the topic of being child-free by choice.

Sydney-based McKinney is particularly interested in hearing about the experiences of a couple who have considered the topic and then chosen to remain childfree, rather than just haven’t got round to it yet.

She is seeking a gay couple in particular to examine the wider societal reaction to see how it compares/differs to that of the heterosexual community, and whether there are inherent presumptions about the desire for parenthood in the gay community.

“It’s a little short notice, but if anyone is available tomorrow, Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday at the latest for a half hour or so, I would be happy to travel to them – or we can just do it over the phone. I am available anytime during the day or early evening on these days, except Saturday morning,” McKinney said.

It is a University assignment, but McKinney is a published freelance journalist, so there may be the possibility of publication for the piece further down the road.
