Phone app meet leads to home invasion

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a violent home invasion in Surry Hills overnight.

About 9pm on Tuesday, a 25-year-old man invited another man into his unit on Waine Street, after earlier communicating with him on a mobile phone chat site.

Once inside the premises the man assaulted the 25-year-old.

The victim ran to the front door for help, where he was met by a second man who then assaulted him.

The first man forced the victim onto the bed where he was gagged and pinned down whilst the second man stole an amount of property from the unit.

The second man produced a firearm and threatened the victim, before both men fled the premises.

Police from Surry Hills Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene which was examined by forensic specialists.

The 25-year-old was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment.

A spokeswoman for NSW Police told Star Observer that members of the public needed to be cautious when meeting anyone off mobile phone hook-up apps or websites.

Anyone with information on last night’s incident is urged to contact Surry Hills Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
