Police call for evidence

NSW Police have launched an online appeal for photos and videos of the Jamie Jackson and Bryn Hutchison incidents at Sydney Mardi Gras.

The ‘Mardi Gras Incidents 2013’ reporting form asks witnesses to detail their evidence and upload any footage or photos they may have shot of either arrest.

However, reports made using the form cannot be anonymous – the online process asks people to provide their full name and a contact telephone number, which may deter some people from contacting police.

Both incidents are the subject of an internal investigation by NSW Police’s Professional Standards Command with oversight from the NSW Ombudsman.

Professional Standards acting assistant commissioner Greg Rolph said he hoped people would use the online reporting system to share what they know.

“This is not a time for people to stay silent – sharing your Mardi Gras video and photos will help us piece together what happened before, during and after both of these incidents,” he said.

Rolph added that the online reporting tool would be a helpful option to anyone who “may find going into a police station daunting”.
