Southern comfort

The new year has arrived and we’re gearing up for a big 2008 down south. December was a big month for us in the Illawarra, with lots of events and planning to get through before the short break over Christmas.

With the silly season now past, our sexual health clinic will be up and running again from the end of January. The first few dates for the clinic are: 31 January, 14, 21 and 28 February. Remember it’s a good idea to get at least one test a year, so ring up, make a time and make a good start to 2008.

In other news, we are eagerly awaiting the first meeting of REAL (Respecting Equality Amongst Lesbians), which will be held at the Illawarra Community Space from 6pm on Thursday 17 January. Please contact Tania on 0402 433 891 for further information.

Our regular Wollongong-based GLBT youth group, Young And Proud, will be having its first meeting for the year on Thursday 24 January.

Wollongong Area Gays (WAGS) is a social support group for gay men over 30. Its first meeting for the year will be held at ACON Illawarra on 19 January.

We would also like to call for expressions of interest in a proposed new group, Rainbow Connexions, which will be a mixed social group catering for ages 18-30. We need suggestions and volunteers to help get this group off the ground and would love to see some strong community support in its development.

We’re looking for a lot of input, activity and feedback from the community this year, so come in, have a chat and let us know how together we can make ACON work for you in the Illawarra.

If you require any additional information about groups, services, or organisations in the Illawarra you can contact ACON Illawarra on 4226 1163.
