Support for the Queen of the Inner West

Members of the Inner West GLBT community are being called upon to lend their support to the Imperial Hotel’s Development Application.

The DA, which is open for public comment until 27 February, seeks approval from the Council to increase capacity restrictions from 306 to 788 people.

Imperial owner Shadd Danesi says, “With the renovations we have done to the cellar and cabaret room, if we don’t get approved for the numbers increase then we’re going to end up with a room that has a 500 people capacity with only 100 or so people allowed in.”

“Increasing the capacity is going to stop people from queuing outside and get people off the road and inside, making the streets a safer place and keeping it quieter for locals.

“It’s also particularly important because there is a desperate shortage of venues open to the GLBT community in the area at the moment. So we are calling on those people to show their support.

“If the GLBT community wants this then we need them to show their support. This is the time that the DA is open for public comment, so we ask that they email the Town Planner involved, and CC in Clover Moore and us, so that we have a record as well.”

The DA number is D/2008/107. Email town planner Emma Brown at [email protected]. CC Clover Moore at [email protected] and the Imperial at [email protected].
