Taking the sexual health message to regional NSW

GAY men in northern NSW are being encouraged to brush up on their sexual health skills and help spread the safer sex message in regional areas.

Next month, ACON will hold workshops in Armidale, Orange, Tamworth and the Central Coast, aiming to boost knowledge of sexual health and increase peer facilitation skills in local communities.

ACON Hunter manager Glenn Ferrero said the training is for people who want to participate at a community level to run workshops or attend events to help people improve their health and wellbeing, particularly in relation to HIV and sexual health.

“LGBTI people live across rural and regional areas. By building the capacity of local people we can take our health promotion messages right to where they’re needed, even in remote parts of NSW,” he said.

The one-day workshops will be run over an April weekend.

ACON has also put the shout out for Central Coast locals to be safe sex ambassadors. The volunteers will help at local parties and events, engaging with local LGBTI people about making healthy decisions when it comes to their sexual health.

Locals keen on either opportunity should contact their local ACON office.
