Taxi rank for Oxford St
Oxford St has its first secure taxi rank to help revellers get home safely.
The new rank will operate on the southern side of Oxford St, between Pelican and Riley Sts, from 6pm-6am every night of the week.
This new late-night secure taxi rank will help improve safety on Oxford St and make it easier for people to visit, Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.
It will give people the opportunity to go to one central location to get a taxi, minimising the risk for both passengers and drivers, to make sure everyone gets home safely.
The secure rank will be manned by security guards on Friday and Saturday nights and will permit six cabs to be stationed at a time.

If this is the case you’ll have drunks mixing with gays, mixing with others, to get a taxi. It makes more sense for there to be a number of taxi ranks so that people who don’t want to be accosted by pissed bogans can go to a different rank. This way, certain taxi ranks will become known to be safe.
This has only taken 40 years to effect!
Long over-due I must say!!!
About time this has come about. Hopefully it will get rid of the trash that usually hangs around in that area.
