Rudd to honour Christian Lobby

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will be the keynote speaker at the Australian Christian Lobby’s (ACL) annual conference in November.
Catholic Archbishop of Sydney George Pell and a range of experts on children’s policy will also speak at the event, which will have a focus theme of -œthe best interests of the child in public policy.
The lobby group’s latest newsletter took aim at the NSW Legislative Council Law and Justice committee’s recommendations that same-sex adoption be allowed, declaring the push -œtramples on the rights of both children and religious organisations.
ACL managing director Jim Wallace also called on churches to be more active in the fight to prevent same-sex marriage.
-œThis relentless homosexual activist pressure on marriage is, even some activists quietly admit, all about normalising the lifestyle. From normalisation flows the right to teach children it is normal in schools, to amplify demands for the removal of discrimination in employment by Christian organisations, and in other ways steadily erode Christian values, Wallace wrote.
-œBut it is also about undermining a societal ideal for relationships -” an ideal that seeks to provide the stability so necessary for children in particular.
-œThe homosexual lifestyle does not value monogamy and commitment to anywhere near the degree that marriage represents.
The newsletter went on to describe the Rudd Government’s commitment to preventing same-sex marriage as a significant victory.
-œMany Christians were disappointed that the Labor Government last year adopted the Same-Sex: Same Entitlements report recommendations to the extent they did.
-œHowever, it is worth noting that the Attorney-General cited Christians’ patience over those changes as a reason to hold firm on marriage at the Conference.
