New study into LGBTI suicide

THE LGBTI community’s dealings with suicide is the subject of a university study looking to learn more causes and processes that lead to it.

The Griffith University study by research fellow for the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention, Dr Delaney Skerrett, wants to examine circumstances specifically surrounding suicide within the LGBTI community.

Skerrett hoped that the study – Suicides in LGBTI Communities in Queensland: A Psychological Autopsy Study – will collect information that is often missed by larger, more generic population studies.

He also hoped the study will help develop better strategies to prevent LGBTI suicide.

For information, including if you can take part, contact Dr Skerrett on (07) 3735 3393 or via email on [email protected].
