Felicity Clelland – Frontrunners
I am 40 years old and was born in Melbourne. I came up to NSW 15 years ago and have been living in Sydney for two years. Running is my passion.
What gay and lesbian sporting clubs are you a member of and how long have you been with them?
I have been a member of Frontrunners for about four months.
When did you get involved in the club and why?
I wanted to improve my running and be around other people who share my passion.
Who would you consider role models in sport? Why?
Emma Snowsill, the late Kerryn McCann. Basically any female endurance runner because I like to think we share a common bond. I’m not as fast, of course.
What is your greatest sporting moment? Why?
Finishing the Gold Coast marathon in just under four hours (3.55.) My determination paid off. I was so elated I was crying as I crossed the finish line.
What music do you listen to while training? What motivates you to keep going?

Techno, dance and a bit of R&B thrown in to mix it up.
Are you single or in a relationship? Does your partner participate in sport?
Single here. My future partner does not have to be a running freak but has to be fit and healthy.
How old were you when you began playing sport? Were you openly lesbian at this time?
I remember watching Wide World of Sport as a teen and admiring all the hot and sweaty runners with the look of grit and determination on their faces. I thought I could do that and I did. I came out in my 20s.
Who is your biggest sports fan? How do they show their support for you?
My cat (how very lesbian).
What is your most embarrassing sports moment?
I literally ran into an open car door and bruised my sternum.
What would you do without your sport?
God forbid.
Would you switch to another sport? If so, which one?
Swimming, but I would sink like a stone. Cycling, if only the cars would get off the road.
Tell us about your best sports night out ever.
I met Steve Moneghetti the night before the Gold Coast marathon.
How would you get readers interested in your sport?
It makes you feel alive.
What is the best thing about your sports club?
We are a very social little group.
