Games scholarships announced

Recipients from nine countries have been granted scholarships to help attend the human rights conference at the 2nd AsiaPacific Outgames in Wellington in March. Making the announcement last week, Outgames conference convenor Barry Taylor said the program opens attendance to those who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to attend the games.

“With generous funding from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, we are able to provide 15 travel scholarships to people from South Pacific countries,” Taylor said.

“This funding has meant that the conference can have a broader representation from countries in the Pacific region.”

Called The Netherlands Fund, the scholarships cover return airfares to Wellington as well as accommodation, meals and conference registration.

Also announced last week were the successful recipients of registration scholarships. The scholarships will pay the registration fees of 17 people.

The human rights conference of the 2nd AsiaPacific Outgames will be held March 16-18, in Wellington, New Zealand. A late fee applies to registrations after February 7. Registrations close February 26.
