Rangers looking good for finals

With a semi-final position on the line, the Sydney Rangers B division team started with determination and attacked from the outset against the third-placed Marrickville during their soccer match at the weekend.

Out to reverse the unlucky 4-2 loss from a few weeks ago, Rangers B attacked from the outset. With a rock hard pitch on a hot day and with the advantage of an extra man, the team ran the opposition ragged.

Opportunities were created with team members Danny, Paul and Gavin all just missing or having shots saved. In defence, Martin and Anthony held a high line and cleared the ball deep into attack with Danny fighting for every ball.

But it was a swift move from Mitch on the left to Gavin the middle with a perfect through ball for Danny to slide past the keeper that put Rangers ahead. Mitch struck the woodwork with a great angled shot but at half time it was 1-0 Rangers B.

It was more of the same in the second half. Marrickville fought valiantly and had two close chances but did not score. All round, it was well controlled game.

Rangers B are finding their rhythm at the right end of the season, and they’ll test themselves again with a final round against lowly placed Strathfield at Wentworth Park at 1:15pm this Saturday.
