St Vincent’s drops the kilos

St Vincent’s and Mater Health Sydney have won Workplace of the Year at the Weight Watchers Healthy Life Awards.

The institutions have been recognised for a different level of commitment to health as their employees shed a combined total of 657 kilograms in just over 12 months on the Weight Watchers At Work program.

“Being awarded the Healthy Life Awards Workplace of the Year title is a testament to the dedication of our team to embrace healthier living. Everyone, from our clinicians to support staff, has made a significant commitment to improve their own health,” human resources general manager Kerrie Field said.

“Initiatives such as the Weight Watchers At Work program benefit employees and the hospital as a whole; productivity has increased, absenteeism declined, and job satisfaction has improved greatly.

“Working shifts in health care can really take effect on the eating habits and lifestyle of employees. The At Work program allows employees to attend meetings during work hours, and provides the motivation to help form better choices regarding food and exercise.”

Weight Watchers donated $1 for every kilogram lost by this year’s entrants to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). As Healthy Life Awards entrants lost a combined total of more than 10 tonnes, over $10,000 has been raised for the NBCF.
