Volleyball teams to fight it out in finals

If your sporting season has come to an end or you just feel like checking out some fit specimens of sporting prowess, the Freezone Volleyballers are keen to get some spectators down to watch their finals this Thursday April 9.
It has been a surprisingly good season for the group who by Thursday night will have a guaranteed six teams playing in their division finals of the UTS Social Comp.
We never expected to get there, Freezones President Wally Salinger told Sydney Star Observer.
It’s definitely better than we’ve done before -” to have, out of 10 teams, at least six playing in either the semis or the finals. And to be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if we managed to get first or second in the B1 and B2 finals.
To help the teams reach their goals Salinger is looking to the community to add some colour to the bleachers and support their fellow gay and lesbian sports players by being spectators.
Flag waving and pom poms are big in the UTS Social Comp, so it would be great to see some people come down on Thursday to wave some flags or something, he said.
So if your season has ended or you feel like watching some sport it would be great to see you down there.

info: The finals of the UTS Social Competition will be held on Thursday April 9 from 6.30pm at Sydney Boys High.

  1. What a Night!

Safe Sets Gold made it to the Semis, Safe Sets White won Gold in B2Div. Safe Sets Cherry went down in the A Div Semi, and Team Dig It lost in their Semi Final.

But that was just the beginning. Free Spirits went head to head with EDOK. It was the Battle of Thailand on far-away shores. What a great game; Julias set consistently throughout the night; a huge line up of spiking, blocking and returning impossible shots made it great fun to watch.

With one set a-piece; it took the bell and the final point to decide the winner. Kevin and Uncle put together an awesome display of setting and spiking; but it was the unblockable Fiat who developed a backhanded short spike in 3 or 4 crucial points that took out the game.

Congratulations to all, many thanks to the supporters who came down on the night.
