A slice of Italy

A slice of Italy

So much is put on the club and nightlife scene that it is exciting to hear about a daytime event. Last weekend we had the annual Bake-Off, which filled Paddington Town Hall with baked goods and glamour or is that glamoured baked goods.

Miss 3D wowed us once again with an amazing creation featuring the fabulous David Hiscock at his turntables, playing at the Mad Hatters Tea Party. It was bought for $6500 and the whole day raised close to $40,000. An amazing effort for a deserving charity.

The next event I have pencilled into my calendar is the Primo Italian festival. Taking the fun from Oxford St to Stanley St, we have been promised music, dancing and food -” three of my favourite things.
Well, there is another and for those who know my track record with Italian boys, the fourth will find its way in there.

The first festival I experienced was when Vanity Faire lived with me. At 3pm, as the house awoke after a full night at work, we staggered across the road for breakfast where we were met by thousands of people. Not wanting to miss out on any of the action, we whizzed around the festival, sampling the food, eyeing the candy, gulping down coffee. We waddled home after an hour, promising ourselves to be early next year.

I was lucky enough the following year to be dating an Italian man. He was dragged across nice and early and made to sit there all day. It was the year Sophia Loren was supposed to make an appearance. I tortured my poor boyfriend for hours, hoping to get a glimpse of Sophia.

I have started to prepare for this year’s festival, clearing my whole day, and doing extra cardio workouts to combat my over-indulgence of carbohydrates. There will be three stages, performances, and walking tours. I suggest you don’t have breakfast and get there early -” there is so much food and drink, you can spend the day there and not eat the same thing twice. 11am to 5pm, Sunday 24 May, Stanley and Riley Sts.

I had better practice my Mambo Italiano just in case I find my next Italian Prince Charming.
