The $1.4 million program will run gender diversity training, provide support for gender diverse students, and offer lessons in reducing homophobia and transphobia.

The government’s leaked bill bans discrimination against LGBTI students on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, but allows it indirectly on the basis of “religious ethos”.

The Labor Party has since committed to reforming laws which allow religious schools to discriminate against staff and students on the basis of their sexuality or gender identity.
Over the weekend a motion condemning “radical gender ideology” was unanimously supported at the party’s state conference.
The church had been approved to deliver scripture lessons in NSW schools.
Education Minister Rob Stokes said the program could only cover “modern problems that universally affect all young adults” given its 25-hour length.
