Loeb gets soapy

Comedian Jackie Loeb admits she has an unhealthy obsession with television -” particularly shows featuring surgically enhanced women with extreme spray tans.

This love has inspired Loeb to take the realm of popular culture to another level in her Sydney Comedy Festival show Soapy Women.

The basic premise is imagining all your favourite soapy characters on the one stage in the same soap. The show is set in the future at a time when alcopops are now a recommended alternative to breast milk, Loeb said.

Logie Award-winning thespians have all been transported to Woomera Detention Centre For Former Soapy Stars, where Governor Julia Gillard runs a tight ship.

The likes of Kylie Minogue, Rowena Wallace and Sally Spectra all make appearances.
One of the criteria Loeb used when selecting her characters was that their wigs would be bought for less than $10.

She also revealed there’s a highly controversial lesbian kiss as well as a snippet of Natalie Putonweight’s brand new spin-off show, So You Think You Can Fuck.

I have wigs and costumes bursting out of every orifice, Loeb said.

When living in the confines of a detention centre it is only natural for -˜strong’ friendships to develop. Doreen Anderson takes a certain inmate under (more than just) her wing.

It is universally acknowledged that there are no good roles for women. Well, there are heaps of fabulous roles in this show and I have hijacked them all.
