LaChappelle sues Rihanna

David LaChappelle is taking legal action against Rihanna for allegedly ripping off his photographs in her latest music video.

Last week we reported that the iconic gay artist was less than impressed with the diva’s S&M film clip.

After seeing the colourful extravaganza he tweeted: “The next time you make a David LaChapelle video you should probably hire David LaChapelle.”

He took things a step further today by suing the Grammy winner (who co-directed the clip) and various other parties.

The lawsuit claims “the music video is directly derived from and substantially similar to the LaChappelle’s works” as far as the “composition, total concept, feel, tone, mood, theme, colors, props, settings, decors, wardrobe and lighting” are concerned.

This isn’t the first time Riri has been accused of stealing ideas. Hip Hop artist M.I.A. also took to Twitter to express her disgust at the uncanny similarities between Rude Boy and her clip for Boyz – which perhaps, not so coincidentally, were directed by the same woman.

Perhaps it is time for the rumoured Mardi Gras performer to find a new director.

  1. I think La Chappelle should get over it, if you looked through the millions of S&M images that exist you would find myriad cases of La Chappelle plagiarising others. I could wallpaper a ballroom with different shots of a woman in leather parading a ‘dog’ on a lawn.
