Gay and Lesbian Health Victoria (GLHV) director Anne Mitchell will step down after eight years at the helm of the LGBTI health research body.

GLHV education and policy manager Liam Leonard will fill the position.

“There is much I will miss about GLHV. It has been the biggest professional challenge of my life to set it up and see it succeed beyond expectations,” Mitchell said.

“I still remember bursting into tears in [former Health Minister] Bronwyn Pike’s office when she made the funding recurrent after only three years.

“I have worked with the best staff one could imagine over that time and felt, with them, that we are part of a big wave of change delivering more legitimacy and better health care to GLBTI people.”

State Mental Health Minister Mary Wooldridge will launch the unit’s second national study of LGBTI health, Private Lives 2, on April 3.
