A statement from Mel (DJ Feisty) Fitzpatrick

A statement from Mel (DJ Feisty) Fitzpatrick

On Saturday the 4th of September, Mandy Rollins went missing and became uncontactable by phone some time after 7.30pm.

On Sunday, the 5th of September, items of Mandy’s personal property (her cap, wallet, phone and watch) were recovered by police at The Gap at Watson’s Bay.

At this stage police have been unable to recover Mandy’s body and as yet we are not in a position to confirm her passing.

Unfortunately, events leading up to last Saturday in Mandy’s life lead us to hold grave fears for her safety.

Mandy intermittently battled with depression but was generally happy with her life and was very much looking forward to the future, especially Extra Dirty in October.

We are all deeply shocked and devastated that she unravelled so quickly.

More than anything we would love to think that she will walk back into our lives but we have been advised to presume the worst.

At this stage there are no plans for a formal memorial service or funeral but I have decided to proceed with Extra Dirty as a tribute to our beautiful girl as she was so loved by so many in our community and I know that this is what she would want.

Mandy was very proud of her achievements and felt very much loved by our community.

She was one of the finest DJs we have ever had the pleasure to listen and to dance to and was certainly my favourite DJ.

I know she brought incredible joy to many. Personally I feel like I have lost the other half of my soul.

I will of course provide more details when I have them from the police and request that you respect Mandy and her family and close friends at this very difficult time.

Thank you for the many messages of love and support.

Mandy touched so many of us with her music and her style.
Whether we knew her personally or not, we felt connected to her and we embraced her as a part of our tribe here in the Northern Rivers.
You kept us dancing through some of the best times of our lives Mandy; you have been and will continue to be an inspiration and comfort for so many of us.
At times like this it’s important that we look after each other. Reach out to your mates and make sure they are OK. If someone’s is not OK we need to help them out or get help for them.

    what if she is alive?

  6. My God – i didn’t really know mandy rollins, but remember her so acutely and fondly from those wild, long, sexy nights at the phoenix, yeaaars ago – when Mandy would whip all of us guys and the few girls around into a triballed frenzy…will never forget those nights mandy, your music, your mixing, your energy, your face peeping out over the dj booth and from under your cap… seriously, not just for this “tribute-page”,the nights at the phoenix were not only some of the wildest of my life, but the sets that you played are forever ingrained in my memory like no other has…if you have passed on,beautiful girl, may you find peace in whatever was your “passing” – love hara.

  7. I have only personally met Mandy a few times but each time she had been friendly, gracious and appeared somewhat shy. I’m shocked and saddened by this news, it is clear that Mandy is a well loved and adored friend to many and an inspiration in the community. I wish she could see this now….

There is hope still. Warmest wishes, love and support to all those whose lives have been made richer because of her.

  8. This is such sad news. Not only was Mandy a great operator but a very efficient and trustworthy promoter. She will be missed by all here at the Star.

  9. I lost a brother to depression so while I don’t know Mandy or her family personally, I know what an awful disease it is. All my best to her family and friends and I hope they get the support they need at this terrible time.

  13. Mel, and everyone in Sydney..
I am extremely saddened to have heard about this.
I was not personally close to Mandy, but as with many of us she was a big part of my life in Sydney. She was an inspiration. Always kind, considerate, and in her moments in the Dj booth she never failed to smile and say hello. This small gesture always touched my heart and made me very fond of her. I thank you Mandy for that smile and our small chats.. it gave me hope in times of darkness which I had at many of times.
I hope that you come back. I pray for you. You are not alone in moments of pain and you are loved, adored, admired. You are inspirational and you made such a difference to more people than you may ever have known. Wherever you may be keep this deep to your heart now.
May i also pass my love and support to all Mandys friends and family.

  19. Mandy is a person that kept everything important and everyone close to her, very close. I was one of the lucky few to see an insight into Mandy that not many got to see. This girl is humble, maybe too humble for what she achieved, and in her ability was able to create such memories in the masses of such an eclectic group of people. People knew Mandy for her music, and it was everything to her. I think that was her way of saying to people, I love you, and thank you for getting to know a piece of me. For me it was when she would play Kylie Minogue, when really her set didn’t call for it. I feel like one of the lucky ones to have been close to Mandy during those times. I have been overseas for the last 5 years, but I have
never forgotten Mandy and the music that she inspired created
memories for my lifetime. As I said, when Mandy holds you dear, you are dear… And in saying that, I wish we could have been dearer as friends for the rest of our lives. Love and missing. Angela Counsel!

  20. There will be a special tribute night for Mandy Rollins to be held at The Hellfire Club Friday 17th September at The Gaff, featuring many of the DJs and friends she has worked with over so many years; Feisty, Sveta, Mark Murphy, Karl Anderson, DJ Jay.

Mandy was resident with us for a decade, and a friend for even longer, playing Hellfire, Milkbar and many other events for us – hundreds of memorable sets charting a long and creative career. She travelled widely with us when Hellfire toured, from Melbourne to New Zealand, and brought joy wherever she played. Our hearts go out to Mel and all who knew and loved her. Part proceeds of the night will go towards suicide prevention projects, particularly those aimed at the GLBTQI community. Further details will be announced as they are confirmed.

Vale La Rollins – from all of your Hellfire family
