It was only a matter of time. Websites such as www. gay.com have for some time now intensified that old gay practice of assessing our fellow men on face value. Cruising individual profiles is a competition in itself, and users are singled out every week by the site’s hosts as hot featured members.
It was only a short click and a drag to a competition like Mr Gay.com, although this global event will hopefully transcend the virtual.
Gay.com are looking for finalists for the international title Mr Gay.com Universe from North America, the UK, Spain, Germany and, yes siree, Australia.
The winner of the Australian heat will receive $AU1,400 and will be flown to New York to compete for the grand prize of $AU35,000. The 50 finalists will be granted free annual membership to Gay.com premium personals, to take advantage of their newfound celebrity.
Punters have to fill in an online form at www.au. gay.com. You also have to be over 21 years of age, a distinctly American condition that will disappoint some.
The good news is members are invited regardless of size, race, gender-identification or orientation. Mr Gay.com could be Mr Bi.com, or even Mr Straight.without.attitude. com.
With any luck, however, this event will prove more successful than a certain local pageant which sadly failed to reach completion. This competition is run by Americans who love a beauty contest, although organisers insist that the criteria are brains, body and heart and that the winner will be a loving and intelligent hottie.
Entries close midnight EST on 23 June, at which time a panel of experts will choose 50 semi-finalists. From 4 to 28 July it’s up to gay.com members to vote for their favourite hottie. Click, drag and submit at www.au.gay.com.
