Rangers back in contention

Rangers back in contention

The Rangers are back in the top four rankings for this season’s soccer tournament, putting them in a good position to make it to this year’s semi finals.

An impressive 8-2 win last weekend has placed the Rangers back at the top of the fixtures, an excellent result for the team who were moved up two divisons this season.

Last week’s win probably wasn’t as good as it sounds, because the other team only had nine players. So we decided that 8-2 was enough of a win and that we couldn’t rub it in anymore, so we put our forwards to the back and backs to the forwards to give everybody a run in different positions. But it still puts us back in the top four teams, club President Gavin Meares said.

We’ve got five games to go and we’ll just keep fighting to remain in the top four and make it through to the semi finals.

Having gone up two divisions, we’d hoped to make the semi finals, we believed it was possible, but we also knew it would be a tough season for us – so I think we’re about where we could have hoped to at this point.

We’re in contention for the semis and we’re holding our own against the best teams. So now it’s just up to us to play the way we know we can in our last few games.

The semis will be played on August 15, but if that’s too long to wait for eager soccer fans, the Rangers will be holding their third beginners social game this Sunday at Centennial Park.
