The Like – Release Me
Here’s a welcome comeback: when their debut was released five years ago, The Like were just another girl band, with little to distinguish them from the pack. Now, they’re a kohl-eyed quintet of ’60s fetishists, mining the sounds of acts like the Kinks, Sandie Shaw and the Shangri-Las for their own material. With retro-soulster Mark Ronson on production duties, Release Me is a rollicking good homage to tough-girl ’60s pop that, at just over 35 minutes, never outstays its welcome.
