Erko shop plan moves ahead
Controversial plans to build a supermarket complex on Erskineville Rd have moved a step closer to fruition in spite of community backlash.
The City of Sydney’s Development Assessment Sub-Committee has recommended council allow the development, with provisos.
The applicants, Harold R Finger & Co, must provide a minimum of 16 off-street parking spaces and ensure that delivery trucks do not use Erskineville Rd between 6am-10am or 3pm-7pm.
It has been suggested the applicants speak to the RTA to investigate ways of avoiding queuing across the Gowrie St intersection.
Council will consider these recommendations at a meeting on September 21 and weigh them alongside community objections to the idea.
Council received 184 submissions while the proposal was open for consultation. Of those, 165 objected to the development.
An online petition with over 1163 signatures opposing the move was also submitted to council.
