New RACGP president
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has announced the election of its new president, Professor Michael Kidd. The highly respected academic presently works part-time in practice in Darlinghurst and is also the head of general practice at the University of Sydney.
Retiring president, Paul Hemming, said that Kidd’s election is positive for the college because of his great breadth of experience both as a general practitioner and as an academic.
Professor Kidd currently chairs several national and international committees, including the National HIV Committee, and is known for his commitment to community activities. In 2000, Kidd was a volunteer medical venue manager at the Olympic Games and, most recently, he can be heard speaking about youth health issues on radio Triple J.
College council has congratulated Professor Kidd on his new appointment as RACGP president. Professor Kidd was voted into the position by a large margin, in an election with an unusually high turnout. He will formally commence duties at the Perth-based College at the 8 October academic session.
