Gay Games head fired
Chicago Gay Games organisers are refusing to disclose why they dismissed the event’s executive director about two months before the opening ceremony.The Gay Games board fired executive director Brian McGuinness last week, replacing him with a managing director, the Chicago Tribune reported.Games co-vice chair Kevin Boyer would not reveal why the executive director was dismissed.Boyer said the former executive director might be offered a different role, but did have more details.The shake-up came in the same week Chicago Gay Games organisers announced they had 11,000 confirmed participants. The Games open on 15 July.McGuinness had been executive director for about a year. He was not available for comment.McGuinness’s departure echoes the resignation of Sydney Gay Games chief executive Geoffrey Williams about four months before that event opened in November 2002.Williams quit without explanation, and the Sydney Gay Games later went into administration with debts of nearly $3 million.
