Big day for Queensland

Big day for Queensland

The biggest event on Brisbane’s queer calendar, Big Gay Day, is back again for 2011. To be held at the Wickham Hotel and surrounds on Sunday March 13, information on the entertainment line-up for the 11th annual street party is starting to trickle through: comedian Meshel Laurie will MC the event, while DJs Paul Goodyear (USA), Ruby and the Oxford Hustlers will provide the music.

And with previous headlining performers including Tina Cousins, Vanessa Amorosi and last year’s ex-Destiny’s Child superstar Kelly Rowland, expect organisers to pull a big, queer-friendly name out of the hat before March.

As with previous events, this year’s Big Gay Day is licensed and strictly 18+. Not-for-profit organisations the Gay and Lesbian Welfare Association PFlag and the Open Doors Youth Service will be the main beneficiaries.

GLWA, a longstanding beneficiary of Big Gay Day, focuses on the wellbeing of Queensland and northern New South Wales’ LGBTI communities through operation of the Gay Line and Lesbian line, a peer telephone counselling service.
