1st Asian conference on gay and transgender HIV
140 delegates from six countries met in Hong Kong last Tuesday for the Asian region’s first conference focusing on HIV/AIDS in men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender communities.
Representatives of groups from Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Burma and China took part in the “Action Planning Meeting of MSM and Transgender Populations Multi-City HIV Initiative”
Hong Kong Director of Health, Dr PY Lam told delegates that rises in HIV infections among MSM in Hong Kong and neighbouring countries had alerted his government to the need for vigilance, and hoped the meeting would lead to the prioritisation of resources for HIV prevention, treatment and care among MSM in their home cities.
