A gay man making music with passion

Jesse Mount is a hot piece of talent ready to make his name on the music circuit. Forget the camp wannabes who sing about dancefloors and discos because with Mont it’s all about songs with passion and meaning.

Growing up as a gay teenager on the NSW far north coast wasn’t easy for this aspiring 17-year-old musician who told SSO he firmly believes the world is now his oyster.

Well, the music industry is hard to get into whether you’re gay or not. I don’t think I have come across anything yet that has been any harder for being gay, he said.

At school I did cop a lot of crap for it though, and they used to say stuff about my singing too, but this is what I love and I’m not going to stop just because of what a few teenaged kids said, and hopefully one day I can prove them all wrong by making something of myself.

Mount is midway through recording his debut EP and said he hopes it will lead to a signing with a major record company.

He is a self-taught pianist and even auditioned for Australian Idol, making it through to the Sydney stages.

Mount said his music is a combination of pop, blues and acoustic.

I always like to have some kind of message in my songs and tell a story, whether it be personal to me or just another kind of topic that everyone can relate to, but I find that most people can relate to the ones that are personal to me anyway, he said.

I’m sure the gay community can relate to mine or their songs, we all love and lose love, so pretty much anyone can relate to it.

His standout song, Let Go, which was written by Leonie Daley, tackles the issues of moving on with one’s life and reliving the inner battles of a relationship.

Other beautiful tracks the community must listen to are Single Candle, Brand New Day and Stranger.

In the meantime, Mount is getting a band together and hopes to move to the city to make a bigger name for himself. Make sure you check him out!
