Jonathan Groff And Daniel Radcliffe Wrap Filming On New ‘Homoerotic’ Film Trust The Man

Jonathan Groff and Daniel Radcliffe have wrapped filming on Trust the Man, a new Vietnam War psychological thriller which is already attracting the attention of queer audiences worldwide since it was announced by Deadline earlier this year.
Set in 1968, the film centres on an ambitious US Army Intelligence officer assigned to investigate a decorated soldier with a mysterious past. As the surveillance and interrogations intensify, the boundary between loyalty and obsession reportedly begins to dissolve, exposing secrets that could threaten both men.
More details of the film are yet to come, but the inclusion of Groff and Radcliffe has fans eagerly awaiting more.

While an explicitly queer storyline has not been officially confirmed, homoerotic speculation about the script has been rife, with the official log line stating
“As surveillance and interrogation deepen, the line between loyalty and obsession blurs, leading both men into a dangerous and uncontrollable connection” leading many to draw their own conclusions.
The two famous faces are joined by gay icons Angus O’Brien and Victor Garber in the exciting cast list.

The project reunites Groff and Radcliffe following their acclaimed Broadway performances in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. Both actors won Tony Awards for the production in 2024, with their friendship and onstage chemistry stealing hearts, especially after Groff called Racliffe is “soulmate” in an emotional acceptance speech.
Groff, who is openly gay, has long been an important figure in queer film, television and theatre. His credits include HBO’s landmark gay drama Looking, its follow up film, and The Matrix Resurrections. He also won his first Tony Award for portraying singer Bobby Darin in the Broadway musical Just in Time.
Radcliffe, meanwhile, has been a vocal LGBTQIA+ ally for many years. He received The Trevor Project’s Hero Award in 2011 and publicly supported transgender and non-binary people after Harry Potter author JK Rowling’s increasingly controversial comments about gender.
Trust the Man is written and directed by queer filmmaker Will Graham, whose previous credits include Daisy Jones & The Six and Prime Video’s boldly LGBTQIA+-inclusive reimagining of A League of Their Own. Graham has previously spoken about the importance of recovering queer histories and creating stories in which LGBTQIA+ lives are more than subtext.
Groff joined the project after Oscar-nominated actor Lucas Hedges departed because of scheduling conflicts. The wider cast reportedly includes Kate Mara, Finn Wittrock, Justice Smith and Victor Garber, adding several more performers with notable LGBTQIA+ screen credits.
No release date has been announced. However, with filming wrapping this late in the year it is expected to be released in 2027.
