Angels in the channel

The Australian premiere of award-winning UK play Gabriel took place last night at the New Theatre at Newtown and runs until 14 September. Set during the German occupation of the Channel Islands in World War II, Gabriel opens with the discovery of a naked amnesiac on the local beach. Is he a lost British airman? Or perhaps an SS officer? The production is directed by Kevin Jackson, acting tutor at NIDA and one time Mr Drummer Australia. Expect a disciplined performance. The New Theatre is at 542 King Street, Newtown, and bookings may be made on 9519 3403. Tickets are only $15.
