Balls drop in the west

Bingay is heading west again. The infamous ACON fundraiser which until recently was a staple at the Imperial Hotel and then Arq, will be staged at the Sly Fox in Enmore from next week.
ACON events coordinator David Wilkins said the move back to the inner west would take place immediately.
“Bingay has always been enormously popular with punters in the inner west,” he said.
“So while the Imperial gets its facelift, we thought we’d share the love and try our luck in the inner east.
“But as it turned out it was hard for people to make the mental shift of having a pub event like Bingay in a nightclub like Arq and so we’ve decided that for Bingay, west is best.”
Bingay’s eternal hostess Mitzi Macintosh said the move back to the inner west would help fill the gap in the GLBT social scene left by the recent closure of the Newtown Hotel.
“We’re absolutely delighted to be getting back to our roots and filling a hole,” she said.
“We’ve really enjoyed our time in the city and we thank everyone at Arq for their hard work and support. But let’s face it – Bingay is a suburban girl. And while you can take the girl out of the pub, you can’t take the pub out of the girl.”
Bingay’s first outing at the Sly Fox will be Tuesday 27 November and will continue every Tuesday until the Imperial reopens. The Sly Fox is at 199 Enmore Rd, Enmore, opposite the Enmore Theatre. Bingay opens at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Bookings: 9206 2110 (24h) or 0413 510 172.
