Barbie’s gay spat

Barbie, the iconic doll that’s topped kids’ wish lists for almost 50 years, has sparked a bizarre gay spat, with a conservative US group claiming the toy’s manufacturers are using the product to push a homosexual agenda.A recent poll on the website of Barbie manufacturer Mattel gave children three options when it asked for their sex: I am a boy, I am a girl or I don’t know.Conservative Christian group Concerned Women for America hit out at Mattel, saying the company was confusing young children with questions about gender identity, US ABC News reported.[To pose] this transgender question at little girls, they’ve really crossed the line, CWA representative Bob Knight said. But Mattel dismissed the criticism as an innocent oversight. A spokesperson said all Barbie website questionnaires had a neutral answer option, and the Barbie poll response choice had since been changed from I don’t know to I don’t want to say.
