BONDI CALLING 2 [Various artists]

It’s not clear whether Bondi has a sound, and if it does, whether it’s nice or not. It could be the ocean, or it could be the cars revving their engines on Campbell Parade. It could be the sounds of people swimming, or it could be sounds of English backpackers throwing up. Whatever, the people at Vitamin Records have their own ideas about it. They’ve teamed up with former Triple J Groove Train presenter Andy Glitre for the follow-up to last year’s Bondi Calling, the aptly named Bondi Calling 2. This one’s got some better-known tracks on it, like a Twinset cover of Georgie Fame’s Sunny, and the song currently being ruined by a Sony ad, No Dog War by King Tide. The ever-soulful Tracky Dax kicks in Troubled Lives, while Linda Jenssen from Wicked Beats Sound System appears on the Junglehammer track Clever Guy. For the record, the Telemetry Orchestra’s slow and steady Shutterspeed is a highlight.
