Shout! The Musical is back with a new multimillion dollar budget and a delectable new stand in for the Wild One with Tim Campbell staring as Johnny O’Keefe.

Campbell, of Home and Away and Dancing With the Stars fame, not to mention holding the coveted title of being Anthony Callea’s boyfriend, is adding to his list of enviable tasks by stepping into the role of Johnny O’Keefe.

I felt a bit ashamed at the start that I didn’t actually know that much about Johnny O’Keefe, Campbell told SSO.

Now I’ve read the bios and seen the footage and had the opportunity to meet a lot of people who knew and worked with Johnny and just started to realise what an impact he had on Aussie music and rock’ n’ roll.

The story, which spans 20 years of Johnny O’Keefe’s riotous life as the indomitable king of risqu?ock’ n’ roll, focuses mainly on his musical achievements. Alluding to the darker moments in O’Keefe’s life, focus is kept on the music, making this a totally infectious and enjoyable night out at the theatre.

It’s a great role to take on, getting to go up on stage every night and just sing these great catchy songs and tell this great story, Campbell said.

It’s also allowed me to get out of what people know me as from Home and Away and just show a really different side of myself. It’s really important to me that I keep finding new things to do and explore a variety of stuff.
