Nobody knows better than gay men how exciting an organ the prostate is -“ but do we care for it properly?

It’s estimated that more than 13,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Costing the country over $1 billion each year, it’s forecast to be the biggest killer of men by 2011.

Men in rural and regional Australia have a 21 percent higher prostate cancer mortality rate than men in capital cities, but all males, including gay men, have a one-in-five risk of developing the cancer by the age of 85.

September marks Prostate Cancer Awareness month. On Monday 10 September Sydney’s Secret Ingredients Gala Fundraiser will raise vital funds and lift the lid on this often forgotten disease.

To be held at Doltone House, the four-course banquet, to be delivered by four of Sydney’s finest chefs, will add a little flavour to the awareness campaign. As well, a newly created cocktail by one of Sydney’s best-known barmen will be unveiled to mark the occasion, which will be hosted by a secret celebrity MC.

As well as the meal, there will be a silent auction of a host of prizes including a twilight sailing trip for 12 people followed by a dinner at Guillaume at Bennelong.

Tickets are $450 per head. Bookings on 9438 7040 or [email protected]. Details: www.prostate.org.au.
