Come Out turns 11

The Come Out social group will celebrate its 11th anniversary on Saturday, September 11 with a dinner dance.

Beginning as the Canterbury-Bankstown District Gay and Lesbian Social Group in 1999, Come Out now has branches in the North Shore, Parramatta, Penrith, St George, Sutherland Shire and in regional NSW in the Illawarra, Parkes, and Dubbo areas.

“It’s important for us to celebrate our achievements and longevity,” Come Out president Alex Day said. “A lot of people have come out with Come Out.

“For many, we are their first contact with our community. This celebration is about acknowledging the input of so many people over the past 11 years.”

“I invite everyone who has ever had some sort of involvement with Come Out, to ‘Come Out’ to Eastwood on Saturday night and party with us,” Come Out’s promotions officer Janice Waters said.

An infomercial for the group will be launched on the evening and photos from the past 11 years will be displayed.

Musician Kyle Dessent, who wrote and performed a song for Come Out’s film and drama project’s 2010 movie Backyards, will perform.

The dinner dance starts at 7pm at the Eastwood Community Centre, 159-161 Shaftsbury Rd, Eastwood. Admission is $10, buffet dinner but BYO drinks.
