Curtain rises on festival program

The 2008 Mardi Gras Film Festival was launched at Slide on Tuesday night.

Festival director Lex Lindsay said this year’s festival was an exotic collection of queer cinema from around the globe.

“We raise the curtain with a 100 percent Australian My Queer Career on Valentine’s Day,” he said.

“Our massive opening party at the City Recital Hall will have over 1,000 potential dates in attendance, so please join us in this grand celebration of queer love.

“The many gardens of MGFF’08 are almost as diverse as our community itself.”

Highlights this year include the Australian premiere of A Jihad For Love, at which the director and producer will be special festival guests.

As well, the film festival will this year venture out to Parramatta for a series of screenings at the Riverside Theatre.
