Dance audition

Get your jazz shoes out because So You Think You Can Dance is coming to town and auditions for this popular show are on 3 and 4 November.
The show will be hosted by Natalie Bassingthwaighte and the judging panel consists of Bonnie Lythgoe, Matt Lee and Jason Coleman.
Lythgoe said the judges would be looking for dancers with a multitude of talents during the audition process, which is quite long.
“First of all the dancers are lined up and looked at by the producers,” she said.
“They cut it down and the best of those people get through to see the judges. If you make it to the next stage you have to go in there and be amazing.”
If selected by the judges you end up in the top 100, which is then whittled down to the final 20.
“One of the things we look for is confidence and having belief in yourself,” Lythgoe said.
“Smile as well because we are the audience, so don’t look at the bottom of your feet. You’ve got to look up and forward, be proud and prove to us that you deserve a place in the top 100.
“What I will stand by is technique all the way. You must stand out, be the very best at what you do – that is a key, and being able to pick up other people’s choreography.”
Lythgoe also recommended auditionees to dress appropriately.
“Wear things that you can actually dance in and dress to impress,” she said. “You’re not going to be able to spin on your head if you have glasses on.”
Auditions will be held at the Entertainment Centre. So You Think You Can Dance will screen on Channel Ten in February 2008.
