Sydney Star Observer What is Orlando?

Rick Evans She is a Nanday Conure, a native to South America. She is 12 years old and that makes her about middle-aged in human years. We have the same attitude to life at this time, as we have both grown up together as companions and she is my best little mate.

SSO Where did you get her?

RE I hand-picked her from the nest when she was about five weeks old, still pluming feathers and demanding to be fed every minute. I hand-reared her for the next few weeks which created a strong bond between us that we still enjoy each day.

SSO What’s the best thing about her?

RE People might not know, but parrots are more affectionate than cats or some dogs. Olly is a big smoocher and loves a cuddle. She’s a big boy bear lover and she likes a good bristle rub-nuzzle any time of day.

SSO And the best thing about being a pet owner?

RE I don’t know about that. She is the boss and I know she owns me. It’s all about love.

RE Always choose your pets to suit the level of time and commitment you can afford to attend to them.
