Funny bunnies seek eggs
The Easter weekend is almost upon us and drag queen Miranda Fair wants our eggs.
Miranda is the organiser of this year’s Easter Bunny Project, previously known as Hop Yourself Stupid. The popular event was first held in 1989, when volunteers and drag queens first visited HIV hospices throughout the inner city delivering Easter eggs and singing songs to patients.
The Easter eggs are donated by the community and, though Miranda was touched by the amount of donations already received, she told Sydney Star Observer that more eggs are still needed.
The drop-off points this time are the Imperial Hotel front bar, the King Street Chemist and the Bookshop Darlinghurst, Miranda said.
It’s things like this that define our community, that show that community is important to people -¦ she said. We really do actually have a community and it relies on people’s feelings for others.
The bunnies hope to cover the St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Ward 17 South, the Royal North Shore Hospital, Prince of Wales and the RPA on Easter Sunday, visiting HIV wards as well as geriatric and palliative care wards.
This year Miranda will be joined by Crystal Clear and the DeVine Emm (pictured).
If anybody else wants to volunteer, they can contact me through miranda@miranda fair.com.au, Miranda added. That’s -˜Fair’ without the -˜e’ -“ that’s Vanity’s spelling. All these youngsters, they have to have an -˜e’ to do everything!
