Greens call to lobby MPs

New South Wales Greens MLC Cate Faehrmann has appealed to the LGBTI community to help lobby NSW Upper House MPs who will debate a motion calling on federal Parliament to remove discrimination against same-sex couples in the Marriage Act.

“It’s really important that MPs hear the personal stories from people who are impacted by this last-century discrimination,” Faehrmann said.

“I’m asking everyone in the LGBTI community to email or phone NSW Upper House MPs to tell them just how important marriage equality is for them.

“If successful, the motion will be a big boost to the national campaign. We all need to be a part of this.”

The motion uses identical language to a Greens motion passed by the Tasmanian Parliament last year.

The Tasmanian and South Australian Greens have both moved to try to have same-sex marriage recognised under state laws to put further pressure on the federal Government.
