Helping raise HIV funds

Operating for more than 20 years, the Karumah Positive Living Centre in Hamilton offers a safe and welcoming place for people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS living in the greater Newcastle region. The centre is holding a retro party night on Saturday, May 8 to help raise some much-needed funds.

To be held at Newcastle Leagues Club from 8pm-midnight, the ’70s/’80s-themed party will feature music by Sydney guest DJ Thomas and shows from glamorous drag diva Denise Gold, plus raffles, dancing, and the crowning of the ‘Newcastle King and Queen of retro’. Entry cost is $15 ($10 concession).

Community-raised funds have been used in the past by Karumah to help provide disability access at the centre, to subsidise annual retreats for people living with HIV and to help put together the centre’s annual Christmas hampers.
