He’s every woman

He’s every woman

Sydney Star Observer:Hello Connie, where are you today?

Connie Chang: Budapest of course. I am filming a soft drink commercial. I am in a no-piece swimsuit on a beach in Hungary.

SSO: You are an agent to the stars, but you are stepping out front for this new cabaret show.

CC: Honey, everyone wants a piece of Connie. I am so in vogue now, and many people just want to explore my parts. You do know I have been in showbusiness for 100 years.

SSO: So how old are you, Connie?

CC: Well, as I was cryogenically frozen, I am 120 years of age.

SSO: Is that older than Cher?

CC: No, Cher and I were at school together, and she was the year above me.

SSO: What is the secret of your survival?

CC: I have trodden an unconventional path. I have lived through the trends from Brylcreem to Britney Spears, but hip hop is my thing now and that is why I am coming to Sydney – to find a new star.

SSO: So what is the show about?

CC: It is my sixth Sydney show and I do songs that everyone wants to hear. Then we have a talent quest and as each contestant performs, the audience decides who should go to LA.

SSO: Who are the talents in the show?

CC: I have Rainbow Amazonian from Byron Bay, and Rose the beautician from Darlinghurst who does a mean back, crack and sac job. Then there is Ruben Pinkalater who worked with Hugh Jackman in The Boy From Oz, and now wants his own star.

SSO: What are the songs you perform?

CC: They are all amazing. I do The Lady is a Tramp, Fame, Loose Yourself, Crazy in Love and an Abba medley. I also do songs from when I was in The Supremes, Spice Girls and Salt’n’Pepa.

SSO: How do you keep the contestants and audience in line?

CC: Well, like Australian Idol, it is all about choice, so I implore the audience to be the judges and they decide. And the audience is also in awe of me too.

SSO: It sounds like you are every woman, Connie.

CC: That song was written about me. I have been the inspiration for a lot of different songs. When I met Bon Scott, he wrote You Shook Me All Night Long after a night we spent together. Diva was also about me.

SSO: You’re So Vain?

CC: No, never heard of that one.

SSO: Adriano Cappelletta calls himself the man behind your success.

CC: Look, we dated a long time ago and we are now not speaking. I sleep on his couch occasionally. He is always on my back, but I don’t think he will ever make it. He likes to bask in my spotlight, but can you blame him?
